When you arrive each month, please stop by the Guild table in the back of the room and check off your name on the sign-in sheet. If you do not have email and need to pick up a paper copy of the newsletter, pick up your newsletter and sign off the newsletter sheet as well. (we only make paper copies available to those without computers.) The sign-off sheets lets us know who was at a meeting and who picked up a newsletter.
We want to know who everyone is. You must wear a name tag at every meeting. Some ladies make quilted ones but that is not necessary. There is a 25 cent fine for not wearing your name tag.
Various Guild Activities
The Guild sponsors various activities, each year, for our members. We encourage you to participate in as many as your schedule permits. They are a way to learn new skills, make new friends and support your Guild. Refer to the Guild’s newsletter, Patchwork Press, and the Guild’s website for a current list of Committee/Activity contacts.
Block of the Month
In those years that we do Block of the Month, the chairperson presents a different designed block for each month with directions and color scheme given in the newsletter. You make one block each month (if you choose to or participate only in those months that interest you) which you bring to the meeting and put your name in a bucket. They are all displayed during the meeting and the lucky person whose name is drawn goes home with often, enough blocks to do a wall-hanging at least. This is very popular activity and fun to participate in those years that it is done.

The community service committee organizes our charity/service projects for each year. This can be a particular pattern or color or design depending on the charity. Any patterns will be posted on the Community Service page. This is all voluntary but most of us feel that participating and making a quilt for charity is as much fun as any quilt we make. It is often embarrassing that the recipient charity/service organization is so appreciative for something we all love to do. 1.JoAnn’s–will continue to offer 10% off cards to guild members. Since some of you already get these cards through your AQS membership, each of you can choose whether or not you want to apply yourself for the 10% discount card. The VIP Discount Card is valid at any Jo-Ann Store, and is also valid online at www.joann.com by using the promotion code supplied on the back of the card. It can be used for 10% off your total purchase, including regular and sale priced items.
Guild members may register for their cards directly with an online sign-up at joann.com/VIP. OR even easier, just ask for a card at your local JoAnn’s store. As a sewing/craft organization, our guild qualifies for this discount. Simply present state issued proof of identification (your driver’s license) and a current guild membership card.
The Jo-Ann 40% off regular priced item coupons can be used in the same transaction as the VIP Card 10% total purchase discount, however the 10% would not apply to the item that receives the 40% discount. These cards run from August 1st of one year to August 31st of the following year and overlap slightly. Ask for the Manager at any JoAnn’s store.

Throughout the year, the Guild is sometimes asked to display quilts for various organizations and/or functions.
The purpose of the Education Committee is to promote the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of quilting as well as preserving the heritage of quilting throughout the community. We offer community educational programs, create and research new educational opportunities in the community and endeavor to build liaisons with other local educational and artistic organizations.
Over the years the guild has offered various fabric swaps; birthday, fat quarter and block exchanges. The exchanges vary from year to year and are organized at the beginning of each year. In general, you will trade blocks or fabric with other people who have also signed up, usually in a color or design designated by the Exchange Chairperson. Details and instructions are available from the Fabric Exchange Chairperson.
Each year the program committee organizes a Guild challenge. This ‘challenge’ is usually presented in December or January, worked on over winter and spring and due at our June meeting. It is sometimes specific – but most often designed to stretch our imagination; using only certain colors, certain patterns, all of us using the same fabric, etc. It is always great fun to see what the annual ‘challenge’ will be.
The Guild has two retreats: the first weekend of November and the third weekend in March each year. Because the facility can only take about 35 participants, people sign up in May, June and September for the Fall retreat and January & February for the Spring Retreat. If there are more names than can accommodate the number wanting to go, names are drawn by lottery. There is sometimes a waiting list and usually most on the wait-list get to go. The only locked spots are for the two current co-Chairpersons and the two Chairpersons from the previous year.
The Guild has a historian, who keeps and documents people and events as related to the Guild since its founding in January, 1984. The scrapbooks are kept by the Historian and are available for review by prior arrangement with the Chairperson and occasionally at some meetings during the year but are not allowed to leave the premises.
Long-Range Planning Committee
This committee is charged with planning long-range objectives for our guild. This committee is activated as necessary.
Our Quilt Show is held each year at the Lebanon Area Fairgrounds in mid November. Our annual show is large and well-attended, our silent auction (items made and donated by guild members) is always a big success and any quilt you display in the show can also be sold if you so choose. The Guild publishes a monthly newsletter, which is filled with the goings-on of members, helpful tips, up-coming events, etc. The newsletter is sent to you via email early in the week prior to the Guild meeting on the first Monday of the month. If you do not have a computer, you pick up a hard copy of the newsletter when you sign in each month. If you have any trouble uploading or reading the PDF format newsletter, contact the Committee Chairperson. The most common reason why you may not receive the newsletter is because your computer either has an older version of Adobe Reader or does not have it at all. This is remedied by going to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you are using Windows 10 or another operating system (there is a drop-down box and you just click on whatever system you are using). Click on the appropriate box for your computer and then follow the prompts. It will add/upgrade your Adobe Acrobat Reader for FREE. You may have to reboot your computer after the installation. You should then be able to open any and all attachments that are sent along by the newsletter editor.
There is a raffle committee that organizes from start to finish the designing, making, quilting, showing, selling the tickets and the final drawing of the raffle quilt. The guild may participate in the making of the blocks, putting it together, the quilting or the selling of the tickets, etc. These monies help pay for all our speakers so this is an important fund-raising event for the guild.
Sit & Sew
Occasionally the Guild sponsors weekend sit & sew’s where you just come for the day and work on your own project. Many members love just getting away, chatting with other quilters and getting to sew for the whole day.
Show & Tell
We all love to see what other members of our Guild have made. We try and have ‘show & tell’ at the end of every meeting. You just bring your item, line up along the left wall, show it to the whole group and tell us why, or how or what inspired the particulars of that individual quilt.
Ways & Means
This committee is devoted to making money for the Guild. Ways and Means always has quilt magazines, logo bags, Guild pins, and fabric for sale. In addition, each month they always have something special- a basket of fabric, tools, new books, patterns or a combination of such for which $1.00 raffle tickets are sold. A winner is picked at every meeting. This is a popular activity that makes money to support guild activities.
During the year, the Guild provides occasional interesting workshops – some related to a particular speaker and others are just a particular class or technique to learn something new.
